In July 2017, the company purchased 100% of its power from a solar farm in Kingsville, Maryland, and packaged it with national solar renewable energy credits. Today, MOM’s operates 21 stores across New York State. As a company committed to the environment, MOM’s has pledged to continue using 100% renewable energy for its stores.
MOM’s stores have been powered by 100% renewable energy since 2005, and have extensive recycling programs. To date, MOM’s stores have recycled more than three hundred tons of commingled recyclables and 26 tons of batteries. Additionally, the stores have recycled over six thousand pairs of eyeglasses and three tons of wine bottle corks. In addition, they are committed to providing food and non-perishable goods to 60 local food banks and soup kitchens.

The company, which has 15 stores in Maryland, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and Washington, D.C., has a good track record of hiring people with college degrees.
MOM’s is not the only company aiming to raise the minimum wage. The retail giant Costco pays its workers more than minimum wage. While it does have the sales volume to support a high wage, it’s likely that its business model wouldn’t be as successful for a small organic grocery chain in Tennessee. The company does not market store rewards cards or soul-food restaurants – two industries where raising the minimum wage might help boost the bottom line.
